Yoga with Nancy Harrington
Always wanted to get into yoga but not sure where to start? Been practicing at home and want to transition to a studio? A long-time practitioner but want to return to the “basic mind”? Simply curious about what all the yoga fuss is about? Then this workshop is for you!
For the next 4 weeks, we will be exploring the basics of yoga and how to begin a meaningful practice that can transform your life. These first weeks will focus primarily on the physical benefits (the asana) portion of yoga, but we will also touch on how you can use yoga as a spiritual practice to transform your daily life.
Some topics we will cover:
What does “yoga” mean and how do you become a dedicated practitioner.
Understanding the general flow of a class – why we do, what we do, and when.
Names and shapes of the postures. What are these strange postures and why we do them.
The importance of strength and flexibility and how we cultivate both.
Functional movement in our daily lives, why this is important, and how yoga helps us achieve this.
The importance of breath and the impact on the nervous system.
Intention and a focused mind-how yoga helps us be better in our lives off the mat.
This basic series is running for 4 weeks, but you do not need to commit to all 4 weeks to get benefit. Drop-in to any class you are able- as each class will give you valuable knowledge you can apply to your current, or future practice. All students attending all 4 weeks will receive a future yoga class credit in appreciation for your dedication. Weekly yoga classes will continue at the same time and place after the basic series.
Most of the classes will be taught by Nancy Harrington and one week with a specialized guest teacher. Prior registration is recommended, but not required. All physical, mental, and spiritual abilities are welcome!
